About TN Nursery

TN Nursery is a family-owned plant nursery rooted in Tennessee and a passion for native plants that has been passed down through three generations. The story began in 1959, when Roscoe Tate established Mountain Ornamental Nursery in Altamont, Tennessee. His knowledge of the region's native plants, developed through years of hands-on experience in the forests and mountains of Tennessee, became the foundation of a family tradition that continues today.

In 1994, Tammy and her husband Dennis started TN Nursery on a 12.5-acre farm in Skymont, Tennessee. Together with their family, they began growing trees and shrubs by hand and built the business through hard work, personal service, and a commitment to quality nursery stock. What began as a small family operation has grown into a much larger nursery while remaining family-owned and operated.

Today, TN Nursery grows and supplies a wide selection of native plants, trees, shrubs, ferns, perennials, vines, and other plants for gardens, landscaping, conservation, and restoration projects. The company operates more than 170 acres of growing land and 10 production greenhouses, while also working with trusted growers to provide an extensive selection of plants to customers throughout the United States.

Native plants remain at the heart of TN Nursery's work. The company believes that gardens and landscapes can provide more than beauty—they can also support pollinators, wildlife, native species, and healthier ecosystems. By helping customers choose and grow plants suited to their environments, TN Nursery aims to make sustainable landscaping more accessible to homeowners, gardeners, landscapers, and conservationists.

TN Nursery has also supplied plants for a range of notable landscapes and restoration projects, including projects associated with the Washington Monument, Arlington National Cemetery, NASA, and other organizations. Despite this growth and recognition, the company continues to emphasize the family values that shaped it from the beginning: honest work, dependable service, quality plants, and a genuine love of horticulture.

Today, the third generation of the family is actively involved in the business, helping carry the nursery into the future while preserving the knowledge and values established more than six decades ago. TN Nursery remains committed to growing quality plants, serving customers with integrity, and helping people create beautiful landscapes that can thrive for generations.
